If you were expecting a Pod of War special you’re out of luck due to an ill EofGizmo, you’ll have to make do with just me Masofdas for these PlayStation Experience (PSX) 2016 predictions.
This year’s PSX takes place next weekend in Anaheim, California which is only 30 minutes away from Los Angeles where this year’s The Game Awards (GAs) are taking place.
Now I’m not going to try to predict the GAs as anyone could show up and bring a trailer with them, however due to these two events taking place around the same time and location, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some overlap, which will play into some of my PSX predictions.
My first prediction is also my last prediction as well, I believe this is how Sony should open and close the conference.
Sony should open the conference up with someone from Naughty Dog maybe Neil Druckmann and possibly Troy Baker to announce the story DLC component for Uncharted 4 focusing on Troy's character Sam Drake, which will get dated for May 10th marking the 1st anniversary of Uncharted 4.
That is how you open PSX 2016 then all the rest you can bring out in any order you want and those will include….
European Focus
This year marked the first in many for Sony not having a European press conference of some kind and due to this PSX will benefit with part of the conference briefly focusing on games coming out of Europe. This will include Horizon Zero Dawn hopefully this will be the last time we will see it in a press conference before its March release, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice from Ninja Theory and hopefully it will be dated, WiLD from Michel Ancel & Wild Sheep Studio to be shown and lastly Detroit: Become Human from David Cage & Quantic Dream to show off another new character.
Turning Japanese, they really should do
Now this year we did have a conference at TGS, due to this Sony may not want to put as much importance on what is coming out of Japan.
To me its about knowing your audience though, so don’t be shocked to see Resident Evil 7, Ni-Oh, Ni No Kuni II all to make an appearance along with others like Hot Shots Golf getting a Western release date.
My prediction however is we will see either Final Fantasy VII Remake or Kingdom Hearts 3 after someone from Square Enix trolling us with Final Fantasy XIII HD Trilogy.
Partnerships
Destiny 2
PlayStation will continue to have a partnership with Activison on Destiny and what better place than PSX to show what Bungie has been working on and where the franchise is going.
Crash Bandicoot Remasters
Announced at E3 and meant to becoming in 2017, nothing has been shown of them yet, will the time be now.
Warner Bros Montreal
Rumours have been going around for a while now about this studio working on two projects, I believe both will happen one at the VGA’s the other at PSX.
I reckon we will see the new Batman Arkham game at the VGAs, then at PSX Soy can go it’s out now with the Sucker Punch game which will coincide with the release of the movie on DVD, Blu Ray etc
Kojima
We know he will be at the VGAs to collect his award and due to this he will be at PSX to show something on Death Stranding likely a concept trailer.
VITA, PSVR and Indies
Again, this knowing your audience and Sony will bring out Gio Corsi who will show us a bunch of games which will be mainly indies along with some Tim Schafer game more than likely Full Throttle which will come to the VITA along with a bunch more.
This should also be the time Sony talks PSVR by showing Farpoint, Golem and my big prediction will be From Software’s VR Project.
How we end the show
All night the camera has done that reward thing by showing the audience, some point whilst doing this during PSX we see Troy Baker sat with Ashley Johnson.
We know she’s there at PSX then to end the show Neil Neil Druckmann comes back out and invites Ashley on stage, and we end with her announcing The Last of Us 2.
Their you have it, some predictions along with what might be shown and how Sony should do it.
Will I get anything right? We will find out next weekend.
