Awhile back I wrote a piece on what Xbox series I would like to see Microsoft bring back to help the exclusive library of the Xbox One and get me to jump back in, like others they have done some remasters of those. Yet the biggest thing MS has done is by adding backwards compatibility to the Xbox One with 360 games first and it went down a storm.
I've always been someone that has never really got the want or need for BC (Backwards Compatible) as surely if I spend hundreds on a new shiny console, I want new shiny games.
And I always remember Cliffy B tweeting something along the lines that there were some stats saying no one actually used it on the 360 or PS3 where it was even taken out (well PS1 games still ran), yet it is something people always want for some baffling reason.
That was back when the PS4 and One were first both shown, with Sony and MS saying it can't be done. MS found a way and Sony still yet to talk about it and the most of the responses being like mine to BC (Yet they do like to play the Nostalgia card almost as much as Nintendo) or the PS3 being hard to emulate which might be true from what I know from the PC scene.
With that said I'm a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to old games on new systems as I love retro gaming but I view that as something as a little different and the biggest one is soon as Nintendo releases a Virtual Console on the Switch then I'm very likely to buy old games all over again.
Nintendo knows they have a fan-base that wants to play their classics and new fans who may have just played Zelda for the first time with Breath of the Wild want to go back and experience the series.
MS seems to be taking that a step further as this past E3, OG Xbox games were announced will be coming to BC. A few weeks ago, the first wave came out and MS has done an excellent job with the emulation with the likes of Knights of the Republic looking almost as a good as a PS2 to PS3 remaster for a decent price from the digital store or you can use your 14-year-old game disc.
Sony has done similar with PS2 Classics which have a different spin on them like trophies but I can't put in my disc of Primal for instance.
I've been out of the Xbox ecosystem for a long time where this hasn't been much of an interest to me as it is something more for long-time fans and possibly where the future of Xbox lies, where you can build a library like you would do on STEAM that can go from PC to PC for the rest of time.
The reason I'm talking about this now is due to the One X something I was always sort of been interested in but seemed a lot of money for a system with a lack of exclusives and I can play the likes of Assassins Creed Origins on PS4.
Yet with more, I see of the One X, more my interest peaks at what it can do for the money where I'm now to the point that actually I'm likely to buy one as I am someone that does care about resolution and frame-rates, even though it might be sort of vain.
Backwards Compatibility along with the likes of Game Pass makes me think, this might be a great place to play sure it may not get as many exclusives as PlayStation or Nintendo but those don't go away from playing on Xbox One.
I can only praise Spencer and the team behind Xbox for what they have done this year for the community and give Xbox a real identity.
With all that said my favourite thing is still a good list and as we are getting OG Xbox games via BC and unlike the Xbox 360 where there is the fan vote for games you'd like to see, I've come up with a bunch of games that I would like to see make the way to Xbox One.
Crimson Sea
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Fahrenheit
Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb
Jade Empire
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
