Hopefully you've checked my review of DOA5: LR on PS4 as I've got some continuing thoughts on the DOA series and fighters this year & next.
In my review I talk about how I've been bit of a fan of the DOA series since 2 back on the Dreamcast and at the time when it came out I was about 10 or 11, so a game with it's sort of content was appealing long with the graphics at the time which seemed excellent .
But it's that content I want to talk about; you know what I'm talking about. As I was seeing what fighters are at EVO 2015 and DOA isn't there.
So I did some research and there seems to be three reasons, one that it plays different to other fighter which is true but Super Smash Bros is there which is rather different to a Street Fighter and if you're going into a DOA tournament you know how the game plays, It's not like myself a few years ago where I was part of tournament where we played a different fighter on a different console.
The second is because Capcom is a major and what to put a spotlight on their games, Capcom do have a lot of games there but again Super Smash Bros is there and that's not from Capcom.
The most likely reason is the third and the games content where in DOA5: LR you can have the character Lisa in a skin coloured bikini thing that makes her look naked. The first iteration of DOA5 was taken serious by the fighting community but allegedly DOA fans didn't like the slightly more serious ton that now in its third version if you set breasts to LR mode in the options you can control them whilst moving the Dual Shock 4 and you can even unlock an OMG mode which Tecmo was even promoting.
So no wonder no one can take the game or series seriously that gives whole new term to juggle mechanics. If you are a fan Big E Gaming has plans to do a side tournament but there will be restrictions on what costumes you can use.
But it's not all doom & gloom for fighting fans as 2015 looks a very good year for the fighting genre. Sticking with Evo Tekken 7 will be there in arcade form and just today news of the PS4 & ONE version will be announced after that event.
There's the recently released Dragon Ball XenoVerse along with few other niche fighters coming this year in Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, J-Stars Victory VS. Killer Instinct on Xbox One will continue to be supported with new DLC characters such as Omen.
But the two heavy weights will be coming out there’s Ultra Street Fighter IV for the PS4 which will be the version used at EVO and is building up the anticipation for Street Fighter V coming spring 2016. Ultra Street Fighter IV & when it's out SFV will likely be the pro-gamers choice of fighter.
But I don't think it will be the public's fighter of choice that lies with Mortal Kombat X coming out April 14th. The reason I think MKX will be the public's choice as it's not just about fighting like the Street Fighters will be, as NetherRealm have shown with Mortal Kombat (2011) & Injustice that you can weave a story into the fighting genre for people that aren't pros at the game to be playing online or at tournament’s.
Also adding social aspects now like most games like to try as even if you're playing against a buddy on the couch or the CPU in arcade mode all wins & loses will affect your groups social ranking that even if you're not a pro, you can feel like you're still contributing online.
The more western approach with violence & bringing back long-time fan favourite Goro might also help. No matter what system you're playing on & if your good or not there is likely going to be a fighter for you in 2015.
But which one will be the King of Fighters only time will tell.
