Masofdas here back with a relaunch of Indie Interviews today I'm joined by Mikael would you like to introduce yourself?
Hello, I’m Mikael Forslind and I’m the marketing and publishing guy for indie developer Zoink Games. I basically do everything at the office that the developers are too busy to think about. Like making sure our games gets published, have store pages and actually get released.
What would we know Zoink Games best for?
I’d say Stick it To The Man is our best-known game. It came out in 2013 and was an indie hit that a lot of people took to their heart. All the time when we go to conventions people come up to us saying they love Stick It to The Man. We are of course hoping both Flipping Death and Fe will be huge successes as well and attract new fans.
Here on Gintendo we like to cover all of gaming but our passion is Nintendo, what is the upcoming plans for the Switch and anything for the 3DS still?
We’re working on both Flipping Death and Fe now and they are both coming out on the Nintendo Switch. Both are planned to be released early 2018. We don’t have any plans for any 3DS games at this time.
How easy has it been for you to develop your games for Switch and being able to port Zombie Vikings to the system?
We’re not working on Zombie Vikings but getting our games to run on Switch has been a very smooth process. We’re using a game engine called Unity and Nintendo has really improved their support for this engine which has made porting our games a lot more easier.
Will you be implementing any of the Switch features such as HD Rumble to your games?
For Flipping Death, we’re going to implement HD Rumble but since we’re still in development we’re still deciding on things.
The Switch has been having huge success so far, how do you feel especially working with EA on Fe with the 3rd party support on the system, and knowing the success of the Switch is it necessary to have 3rd party support on the system for it to be a success?
Working with EA for Fe has been great and we’ve been wanting to do a Switch version for long time so getting Fe out on that platform is really great. I hope a lot of other major publishers will support the Switch in the future as well. The console already seems to be a huge success but without games, it won’t be around for long so support from the developers and publishers is really important.
We've talked about you but what have you been enjoying on the Switch? Found any hidden gems on the eShop we should be playing?
The game I’ve spent the most time with on my Switch has been Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap which I thought was a cool game. The next game I’m planning to play is SteamWorld Dig 2 which is made by friends to the studio.
Last one which was going to be Cake or Ice Cream thanks to fan questions but I also received Mayo or Ketchup as well, so a simpler question is Pearl or Marina?
I’d say Marina, ketchup and cake.
Thanks for joining me, Mikael.
